Lonnie Feather works and lives in Portland, Oregon, and has exhibited her art and completed commissions since 1982. She received her Baccalaureate from Portland State University with Honors in 1987 and was recognized with the Corning Award as outstanding student while studying at the internationally renowned Pilchuck Glass School. She has studied glass techniques with Mary Ann “Toots” Zynsky, Susan Stinsmuehlen, and Paul Marioni at Pilchuck and with Anthony Parker. She has received significant awards including Outstanding Woman Artist of Solano County in 1989 and Best in Class, First Place and Merit Awards at Napa Town and Country Fair and Marin County Fair in 1990, among others. Her commissions have been numerous and varied. Some examples of her Percent for Art projects are at Metro Headquarters Building in Portland, Oregon, where she reached out to and became involved with community members working at a grass-roots level to make a difference. It was their stories that inspired a series of thirty glass panels that line the corridor of the regional government agency. And, in 1996 while working with the Port City Development Center, she spent a year in collaboration with developmentally disabled adults and at-risk youth, designing and fabricating sand carved glass blocks, using images based on their experiences. Other public art projects have included a mural at the Multnomah County Juvenile Justice Center, a series of glass pieces for the Lake View Village in Lake Oswego, OR, Oregon State University, and University of Oregon. Private commissions have also been completed for the Arizona Center for Health and Medicine in Phoenix, AZ, Paramount Graphics, and Delta Airline at the Portland International Airport and was recently named (in collaboration with Lucy Blake-Elahi) as one of nineteen artist teams (out of 156) for the Los Angeles Police Department's Pre-Qualified Artist Pool. |
